After 7 years at CenturyCafe.com we are still getting over 50,000 unique visitors a month and pushing an incredible 10 to 15 GigaBytes of data. We still usually rank #1 on Google for the phrase “Manhattan Bakery” ahead of legendary greats like Magnolia and Bouchon and Levain and Billy’s.

But the web development firm that built 4 different versions of this website over the years (Web Design WorkPlace) is making a new site featuring dozens of Manhattan Bakeries and we are rolling into the new site.

Will you still have access to the world wide web’s favorite chocolate strawberry image? Absolutely – yes. And what about the almost 1,000 other images. Uhmm – a definite maybe on that one. Probably NOT actually. Many of the images will be available but some are going to fade away into internet memory.

We will have a new website that is the latest design and a tad bit smaller but it will be on a new URL. This domain is going to be used for another purpose.

If anyone needs some of the images that do not appear on the new site, please write an email to us and we will do our best to hook you up. We appreciate all the media use of our images as long as you link with attributions. The new site by the way is called NYCBakery.org and it will be online by January 1st, 2012.

Cheers Everyone !!

Here is another spectacular cake in the under 20$ category – mango cake with fruit topping. This is a New York City Chinese Bakery styled cake that is as usual great to eat and practically thrilling to look at. Normally there are 3 of these cakes made at the same time and they practically fly out of the bakery. You can order in advance if you like to make sure it is available. This cake can also be decorated for a small additional fee to customizes it for party’s or any special occasion. This cake comes in different sizes so if you do phone order keep in mind how many will be served. Enjoy !

Well I talked about Google making some changes to our bakery ranking lately. This picture shows us ranking #2 for Chinese Bakery in the Maps local area of Manhattan. So we somehow got classifies as a Chinese Bakery even though the word Chinese does not appear anywhere on the home page or in the tags under the page that web designers use.

Well with everything there is some good news and some bad news. Somehow we got moved down in rankings for :Manhattan Bakery” which is the phrase that got us up to 3,000 unique visitors a month. We like that one. How many visitors will the Chinese Bakery phrase get us? We will have to wait and see.

The entire website is going to be upgraded soon anyway. Most of the images I am going to migrate to our new site at NYCBakery.org once it’s launched next week. I’ll have a site for the Century Cafe and Bakery, but instead of a 100 page site like it is now, I’ll cut it back to about 5 pages. The images I’ve collected over the last 6 years I am going to put up so people looking for a good bakery can compare the different possibilities.

Century Cafe and Bakery was #1 on Google for the phrase Manhattan Bakery for 2 years until recently. A site took over that is a pure spam site. 50% of the site is pay per click Google advertising. The other 50% is stolen content… that’s right, it’s a “scrapper site” or an “MFA – made for adsense” site. The funny thing is that another site pulled ahead of Century Cafe for”Manhattan Bakery” and it has only a single backlink compared to Century’s 150 backlinks and it’s not as old as Century’s site and it only has a few pages. Century’s site has 1,000 images and almost 100 pages.

What’s Going On With The Google Rankings?

I’m going to work hard to get that MFA Made for Adsense Scrapper site removed from the #1 position on the phrase Manhattan Bakery. MFA sites are just internet spam and I like to take out the trash.

I’m also going to ask every SEO friend I’ve got to look at this site and try to figure out why a 5 page site with 1 inbound link moved ahead of a 100 page site with 1000 images and 150 links.

Century Cafe and Bakery was moved up to a #1 position on Google Local Maps for the phrase Chinese Bakery:

Besides being able to tell you where every street accessible couch in New York University was in the 1980′s, I’ve seen a lot of punk spiked hair. This cake brings me back to the days of punk but in cake form. Wow. This is the only post that goes beyond Ace of Cakes on this website. This cake is as good as it gets in the 20$ and under price range. The signature glazed fruit topping is as good to eat as it is to look at. And the lemon chiffon spikes are fun to break off and munch…. on your way to visit the place where CBGB’s used to be.

Wow !!! Centurycafe.com had over 100,000 Google impressions in a 30 day period recently.

We are getting 50 to 100 unique visitors a day on the site

We have almost 150 inbound links from other websites.

We ranked #1 for the phrase Manhattan Bakery for over 2 years until Google allowed a MADE FOR ADSENSE MFA site to go to #1 to make more money for Google. That MFA site has ZERO unique content… infact it has STOLEN CONTENT. Half of the page is GOOGLE ADS. Wow !! They have 1 inbound link. I have no explanation why our site is not #1 anymore.

Our site has over 1,000 images that I made with a Nikon D-60 and I color balanced and sliced every image by hand using Photoshop. Wow, the other site has ZERO images for viewers.

Our site has been up continuously since 2004. Their site is only 2 years old.

We did 14 GIGA BYTES in bandwidth this month. 14 GB!!! Thats a lot of people looking at a lot of images. It’s all in Google Analytics too. Why Google is letting a trash SPAM MFA site rank #1 for Manhattan Bakery is a mystery… but maybe it’s the example SEO Pundits have been looking for all these years. PROOF THAT GOOGLE FAVORS MFA SITES ON THE NATURAL SIDE.

We got it. First to 1000 with an image slideshow that can keep you entertained for hours. It will entertain us for hours anyway. Take a look on the top nav bar of teh website and look for “Photo Gallery”. When you get there… well there are 4 different pages you can go to as you can see the tabs on the bottom of each page… click the “Slideshow with Piclens” text and get ready for stunning gourmet bakery visuals!! In the lower right hand corner of the screen there is a button that will allow you to expand the slideshow to full screen. Wow !! Just click on teh escape key to get back to the normal size.

Most of the images in the posts can be clicked 2 or 3 times to make the strawberries as big as your screen – and it’s all in high resolution so you should be able to see it so clearly it makes your mouth water. If YOU want a website like this please call Web Design Workplace owner Mal Milligan at 201-696-5375 for a quote.

Asians love sponge cake and the competition among the bakeries in Chinatown is keen to be the best. I see a lot of locals trying this for the variety. There are also some nuts in this particular one. If you are a sponge cake lover try this one and I’m sure you will be hapy with it. The item in the picture can be found in the second window case and it’s packaged to go. You can also normally buy a slice if you are eating in. Regards !!

This is done to perfection as Asian Bakeries are very competitive with their sponge cakes. There are 5 variations of the basic sponge cake roll available at the Century Cafe and Bakery in Manhattan but this is a favorite. Usually served with coffee. In fact, this would go great with a Bubble Coffee like our last post. There is a cream filling which is light and balanced to give the right amount of moisture without over powering the delicate flavors that come out from the sponge cake. This roll is sometimes called a Sponge Log and it’s sold in a plastic tray that keeps the cake fresh for 5 days or more.

You better believe it. I’ve seen it around NYC but at a place like the Century cafe and Bakery you can have just about any drink made into a Bubble Drink or a “Boba Drink” including the ubiquitous NYC “coffee light and sweet”. Are most Bubble Tea drinkers going to try this one? I doubt it. Coffee drinkers usually don’t want Boba’s in their drink. But it is an interesting and refreshing variety and change of pace. I recommend it when you are in the mood to try something new. Cheers -
