What’s Up With Our Google Rankings?

July 29, 2010

Century Cafe and Bakery was #1 on Google for the phrase Manhattan Bakery for 2 years until recently. A site took over that is a pure spam site. 50% of the site is pay per click Google advertising. The other 50% is stolen content… that’s right, it’s a “scrapper site” or an “MFA – made for adsense” site. The funny thing is that another site pulled ahead of Century Cafe for”Manhattan Bakery” and it has only a single backlink compared to Century’s 150 backlinks and it’s not as old as Century’s site and it only has a few pages. Century’s site has 1,000 images and almost 100 pages.

What’s Going On With The Google Rankings?

I’m going to work hard to get that MFA Made for Adsense Scrapper site removed from the #1 position on the phrase Manhattan Bakery. MFA sites are just internet spam and I like to take out the trash.

I’m also going to ask every SEO friend I’ve got to look at this site and try to figure out why a 5 page site with 1 inbound link moved ahead of a 100 page site with 1000 images and 150 links.

Century Cafe and Bakery was moved up to a #1 position on Google Local Maps for the phrase Chinese Bakery:

Manhattan Bakery Website with 1000 Photos

July 24, 2010

We got it. First to 1000 with an image slideshow that can keep you entertained for hours. It will entertain us for hours anyway. Take a look on the top nav bar of teh website and look for “Photo Gallery”. When you get there… well there are 4 different pages you can go to as you can see the tabs on the bottom of each page… click the “Slideshow with Piclens” text and get ready for stunning gourmet bakery visuals!! In the lower right hand corner of the screen there is a button that will allow you to expand the slideshow to full screen. Wow !!  Just click on teh escape key to get back to the normal size.

Most of the images in the posts can be clicked 2 or 3 times to make the strawberries as big as your screen – and it’s all in high resolution so you should be able to see it so clearly it makes your mouth water. If YOU want a website like this please call Web Design Workplace owner Mal Milligan at 201-696-5375 for a quote.

Picture Menus

August 25, 2008

Click every Cake Picture on this site 3 times for HUGE PHOTOS. You have permission to use them for FREE desktop wallpaper. There are several picture menus at the Century Bakery. But basically you can order anything in 5 languages when the owner Tom Lau is there… which is most of the time. You can read menus in English, Mandarin, Cantonese, and you can order in Thai and Vietnamese as well. This is the main picture menu in the background and I’ll show it to you in much better detail later. And by all means talk by pointing and using hand and body language… it’s very acceptable here.

The Middle Counter

August 25, 2008

At the middle counter you can buy all the baked items in the store, along with cookies, sandwiches, and drinks. Keep an eye out for specials… here is how that works. In many Asian stores if you see it you can buy it. You can always ask to see when something is going to be available. The fresh bread tins go fast. But they are replenished fast. When locals buy fresh bread they want it to be minutes old. Literally. So when you see the fresh bread at the middle counter it is steaming hot and chances are – right out of the oven.

Sunday Breakfast at the Century Cafe and Bakery

August 24, 2008

I love Sunday mornings when I have a chance to bring the kids to the Century Cafe. The kids mostly go for bakery stuff these days while I go for the hot foods. I love a good rice soup and theirs is probably the best in Manhattan… they have fresh ginger and it’s got a silky texture. [Read more]

Step up to the Counter

August 10, 2008

What I tell my friends for the first time they are here is don’t get overwhelmed with the huge selection. Just pick a few items and start eating. Century Cafe will be here next week and the week after so you can try every item that makes your mouth water.

You got to the counter, now is the hard part, with 200 items to look at and smell your mind races through these thoughts: what do you want first? What will you get next? What will you get to take home?

So first, if you want one of the hot foods like beef noodle, rice soup, steamed pork bun, shrimp har gow… just stand in front of the steam case.

For baked buns, as you point to one in the window case… one of the Century Cafe employees will grab it for you with tongs and bag it. You will probably pick a few buns as many are only .70 cents each and the seller will put your selections on a tray for eating in the Cafe or in a nice carry out bag to to go orders.

At any ordering station the attendants can get you hot or cold drinks from the hundreds available.
